Wrocław Medical University has been included in the latest edition of the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) 2025, confirming its presence in one of the most prestigious and recognizable higher education rankings in the world. The university is ranked in the 1001–1200 range and belongs to a small group of Polish universities included in the global ranking.
A particular highlight of this year’s edition is the University of Warsaw’s high ranking in the Per Capita Performance (PCP) category – an indicator assessing scientific effectiveness relative to the number of employees. With a score of 12.3, the university ranked second in Poland, second only to the AGH University of Science and Technology. This high PCP demonstrates that the university’s research achievements are of significant value and visibility in global science, commensurate with the relatively small size of its research teams.
“The presence of Wrocław Medical University in the Shanghai ranking is an important signal for our entire academic community. Our result in the scientific effectiveness category demonstrates our ability to effectively translate our research potential into achievements of real significance for global science. We view this as both an honor and a commitment to further strengthening the quality of our research, internationalization, and collaboration with the best research centers,” emphasizes Professor Piotr Ponikowski, Rector of Wrocław Medical University.
The ARWU Ranking, published since 2003 by ShanghaiRanking Consultancy, is considered one of the most reliable tools for assessing academic potential. Its methodology is based solely on hard scientific data – publication record, citations, presence among the world’s most influential researchers, and the achievements of Nobel Prize and Fields Medal winners. The absence of survey elements or subjective assessments makes this ranking one of the most objective in the world.
Its inclusion in the ranking is an important signal confirming the scientific recognition of Wrocław Medical University and its contribution to the development of globally significant research. The high PCP index demonstrates that the effectiveness of the university’s research provides a solid foundation for further strengthening its position in international rankings.
