Tradition has been fulfilled. Before the International Student Day on Sunday, November 17, organizations and associations operating at the Wroclaw Medical University received their annual awards. The awards for scientific and social activity were presented to them by Prof. Agnieszka Piwowar, Vice-Rector for Students and Didactics at the Wroclaw Medical University.
There are over 120 organizations and associations operating at WMU, and their membership exceeds the number of all students, which means that many people are active in several of them.
– It is thanks to you that our university is a dynamic, vibrant place, open to new ideas and diversity of thought – said Prof. Agnieszka Piwowar. – Your successes are also proof that cooperation and exchange of experiences are the key to progress and development.
The Vice-Rector emphasized that members of the best and most active organizations and associations arouse admiration, are an inspiration, and also prove that studies are not only about exercises, lectures and exams, but also a world full of curiosities and challenges.
– Albert Einstein said, “Try not to be a man of success, but a man of values,” which reflects the spirit of your activity – added Prof. Agnieszka Piwowar. – You have passion, curiosity about the world, thanks to which you achieve success. You also have ambitious dreams, which, combined with perseverance and commitment, can turn into outstanding projects, which I sincerely wish you.
The winners received commemorative statuettes and diplomas as well as cash prizes that they can use to develop the activities of their circle, organization or association.
Congratulations, and on the occasion of International Students’ Day, we wish you all the best. You have chosen difficult studies, so may perseverance not abandon you, and later successes will reward you for sleepless nights before tests and exams. Gain knowledge, set goals, but also find time to enjoy life and the company of loved ones. And never, but never stop believing in yourself and your dreams. We are glad that you have chosen WMU and we hope that the years spent with us will be a good time for you.

International Students Council promotes multiculturalism, tolerance and student activity. However, it was established as a holiday commemorating the participants of the anti-German protests that took place in Prague in 1939. The students there took to the streets to oppose German aggression. Their demonstration was brutally suppressed, many were imprisoned and several paid the ultimate price, which was their lives.
